Trying Haverdash and Renting My Clothes

Unboxing Haverdash

Would you ever consider renting the clothes you are wearing, instead of constantly buying clothes? Imagine being able to wear some trendy items for a few weeks and then send it back! I was recently introduced to a clothing subscription service called Haverdash. Haverdash allows you to pick out clothing, wear it for as long as you like and then send it back. I honestly never thought about renting my clothing but I’ve been trying to minimize my closet so a service like this sounded perfect. Before I go on, I’d like to thank them for allowing me to try their service in order to give my honest opinion!

How a Haverdash Subscription Works

So how does Haverdash work? It’s really pretty simple, Haverdash is a monthly subscription based service. You get three clothing items per box, for $59.00 USD a month. It’s a flat rate per month no matter how many boxes you get in the month. So if you want to just wear the items for 2 days and then send it back, you can and you will get another box. The number of boxes you get in a month is unlimited and just depends how fast you send the items back plus shipping time.

After you create a Haverdash account, just log in and start adding items into your virtual closet. When you have more than 6 Haverdash will automatically send you your first box. You can even prioritize items when you want them sooner.

Simple Returns

Once you are done wearing them, simply return all the items from the box (unless you are purchasing them) in the prepaid shipping bag that is included. The return process is no hassle, just put the all the clothing pieces in the shipping bag, there is no need to wash or dry clean the clothing, Haverdash takes care of that for you. To ensure that you get the fastest delivery possible you can do return notify which lets Haverdash start processing your next box while the previous one is in transit back to them.

Keep What You Love

Haverdash gives you the flexibility to try out new styles without having to commit to buying the item. Wear it a few times and if you get tired of it just send it back!

If you really love an item you can easily purchase it. I purchased one item from my first box because I absolutely loved it! Yes, the item may be used but the purchase prices are discounted from retail. The dress I ended up keeping wasn’t even available when I looked around for it.

My First Haverdash Box

I received my first Haverdash box just 3 days after I started putting things into my closet. The items I put into my closet are thing that I wouldn’t normally buy. I challenged myself to try new styles, like these paper bag waist pants!

I also got a plaid skirt sent to me. My obsession with plaid skirts just can’t be helped. I liked this one because of the ruffles, but honestly had no occasion to wear it during that week I had the clothing.

The last item in the box was this flowy floral dress. I just added this to my closet on a whim. It’s not something i’d go seek out to purchase or pick up off the rack at the store but I absolutely fell in love with it. This is the item ended up keeping.

Quality

Like I said earlier I never really considered renting my clothing. The thought of getting clothes that had been worn by someone else seemed odd to me. I also worried that the items might look worn out or faded. This definitely was not the case with my items, each garment I received in the box looked like new. They were crisp, clean and smelled fresh. I have read some reviews on the site of other people saying the items looked a bit worn, so it may be something to look out for. The upside is, if it does look a bit worn out, just send it back.

What I love about Haverdash

My favorite thing about Haverdash was the fact that I can just keep getting a constant flow of new clothing each time I sent things back. They have so many cute and fun floral dresses! With spring on the way I just couldn’t help to keep adding more and more floral dresses to my closet. I was happy to see familiar brands that I would buy at my usual stores, like Cupcakes and Cashmere, Line and Dot, and BB Dakota.

I also like that you can narrow down your searches by occasion. The Featured section filters by what is most popular, trending, office styles, and other occasions. This helps me a lot since I like to shop for outfit ideas based off of what i’ll wear them for.

As far as pricing goes, Haverdash is the most competitive. Other services could cost you up to 100 USD/month. A subscription to Haverdash is 59 USD/Month. Some of the brands on Haverdash may not be as higher end as on other rental sites but they have a lot of popular brands some of items these can retail for over $100.00.

What I’d love to see more of

Even though there are many pieces of clothing to choose from on Haverdash there are some things I’d love to see more of. One thing I noticed while browsing through items is a lot of the color and styles looked very similar. Many of the colors were mostly neutral and the patterns I kept seeing were the same (floral and plaid). More variety in styles colors and patterns would be nice. I’d also love to see more suggestions by occasion and season or even full outfit ideas or look books.

There are only three items in each box which I feel like is not quite enough. I think at least 5 would be ideal but that’s just my own opinion. Also a style quiz to sort of narrow down items you might like more would be fun and helpful. I’ve been on some sites that try to get your style preferences based on what you like.

Is Haverdash Worth it?

Is Haverdash worth the monthly rate of 59 dollars? If you frequently shop every month and like to wear new clothes or need items for special occasions, then I definitely say it is worth it. I have a ton of clothes in my closets, sometimes I still can’t find something to wear or I just want to get in on a trend. With Haverdash, you just log in to your closet, pick out items you want and receive them in the mail.

Many of us fashion lovers have a tons of clothing that we loved at one time but then just stopped wearing, or we just needed something for a special occasion or a season and that’s it. So instead of having items sit in your closet you can use a subscription rental service to keep your closet minimal but still be able to try new pieces!
