The H&M Fall Tweed Skirt Your Closet Needs

Are you picky with the textures of your clothing? I am! I’m quite picky with knit textures when it comes to anything. If it looks too thick or rough I won’t wear it, want to touch it or even look at it sometimes.  Since last year I have been searching for a plaid or houndstooth print tweed* skirt in black and white.  So specific right? I browsed around at all the usual places but somehow overlooked H&M. It had been a while since I shopped there and hadn’t thought of them. Little did I know they had exactly what I was looking for. Thank you H&M, I finally found the tweed skirt I was searching for my fall wardrobe!

Tweed As a Fall Staple

Tweed is a classic piece of a fall wardrobe. The fabric is sturdy and will keep you warm while looking classy and elegant. Most tweed pieces i’ve seen tend to be a pretty thick stitch (though there are finer tweed stitches). The material used is usually a thicker woven thread. While I love the look of this from afar, up close I do not like it too look to thick.  Some tweed stitches looked like a berber carpet to me and I just couldn’t imagine wearing it.

After a lot of trial and error and returning various skirts, I came across a black and white plaid tweed a-line skirt on the H&M website.  The price was good and it looked decent in photos. I had an event coming up and wanted to use this in my outfit. I made my decision and decided to purchase it.

Black And White Plaid Jacquard Skirt by H&M

The H&M Jacquard** woven skirt surpassed my expectations.  The price is a great deal for the quality; it is definitely worth the money.  The weave is not too fine so as to look summery but not super thick.  Some of the fabric used is also quite soft almost like a chenille feel, the black threads are made of a stiffer material but over all the texture is nice.

Here is a closer look at the fabric:

Sizing and Quality

What I really liked about this is the over all fit. It’s form fitting but not too tight. The sizing runs slightly small, but I would not size up. I’m wearing a size 2 here. Another nice detail about this skirt is that it is fully lined so it does give that extra layer of warmth and a more premium feel to the over all construction. There is a hidden zipper in the back and it is dry clean only.

How I Styled It

I wore it with tights and a black 3/4 sleeve top (which is actually a dress). For shoes I opted for black suede oxford booties. Then to add a bit of color to an otherwise monochrome outfit I decided to go for my favorite light pink clutch bag.

Tops

Other styling options could be a cropped black shirt, although I found that the fabric around the waist might feel a bit scratchy because the black threads are made of a stiffer material. If this might bother you I would recommended to stick with a tucked in shirt.

My own style is quite simple, so I feel that a black top goes best with this skirt, but also a light pink could work… it’s a neutral right?

Pair it with fitted turtle neck for really cold days or a slouchy off the shoulder sweater for a more casual occasion! I would stay away from long cardigans with this one because the skirt should be the center of attention. Having a long garment over it would detract from the over all look in my opinion. (With the exception of a coat if it’s cold of course).

Shoes

When it comes to shoes I would also stay with the monochrome pallet and go for black suede dress shoes or boots. You can swap out the oxfords booties for black flats or OTK boots. The style of this skirt isn’t meant to be dressed down with tennis shoes so that would be a no go for me.

* Tweed is actually a specific material but currently many fashion brands are referring to tweed-like fabrics and styles as just tweed. This item might not be actual tweed but instead tweed-like. Since the item came up while searching tweed, that is what I went with.

** Jacquard is a weaving pattern whereas tweed is a fabric. The over all look is similar so I’d say it’s tweed-like.
