How to Style Leopard Print Like a Pro

Leopard print is in this year, we are seeing it all over the place, sweaters, dresses, bags, you name it; there is a leopard print version of pretty much every item.   Even though I blog and post about fashion, I don’t consider myself very trendy at all.  My style is quite simple and I tend to go for more low-key looks. When it comes to trends, I usually take a more subtle route if i’m jumping on the bandwagon (sometimes I don’t jump on trends at all).  I definitely wanted to try give the animal print trend this season a try, so I went ahead and purchased a few items to put together some looks! Hopefully these looks will give you some ideas on how to style leopard print if you want to give it a try!

Some people can pull off a full leopard print dress or jumpsuit marvelously… I am not one of those people.  The key when your style is more simplistic but you want to wear a really bold print like leopard is to use it as an accent or an accessory.  The accessories of your outfit will still allow you to give a subtle nod to the trend, which is exactly what my style is.  I recommend wearing only 1 item with the print,  you can choose a belt, a bag, headband, scarf etc… I chose to get myself a leopard print scarf, and pair of leopard print shoes; although I do wish I had gotten booties instead.  It’s been bit too cold to wear these shoes out!  Another item I have had actually from a few years ago is a leopard print sweater.

Looks:

The first accessory I purchased is a large scarf from Nordstrom.

Here I paired it with a cardigan of course.  I think the red goes really well with the print.  I kept the rest of the outfit simple and wore it with black pants to keep the outfit toned down.

I really wanted a pair of leopard print shoes this season.  Many of the ones I wanted were sold out when I was shopping (some have restocked), but I came across these Roxy ones at DSW.  This style of Roxy shoes are so comfortable, they have a memory foam insole and I think that is the best thing ever!

A Printed Sweater:

This leopard print sweater has actually been in my closet for a few years now, although it’s a very bold piece, instead of wearing it on it’s own, I pair it with a sheer stitch sweater on top. This way you can still see the print but it’s more toned down,  alternatively you could wear a blazer over it. Again here I wore it with black pants, but it would pair well with a black skirt or deep plum color as well.

Belts, Bags and Cami Tops:

A cami top with a leopard print also would look great with a black blazer over it and a dark pair of jeans. I’m currently considering purchasing one of these tops! This t-shirt from Abercrombie also comes really close to what I want, so its on my radar.
A leopard print bag or belt is another great way to incorporate the trend and make a statement!

Final Thoughts

So that is my list of picks for styling the trendy leopard print this year.  The funny thing about leopard is that even though it’s a bold print, it goes well with a variety of colors.  Pretty much anything actually.  Since the tones in the print are pretty neutral it plays nice with most solid colors.  You can shop everything in this post by clicking on the images.  I’ve also found some beautiful printed dresses that I would love to try wearing, this dress from Missguided one would look so cool with a black blazer or cardigan over it don’t you think?
